Cyber Security Engineer

Overview

In this role you will strengthen the organisation’s security posture by delivering key initiatives from the Cyber Security Roadmap in a hands-on capacity. You will work within a Microsoft-centric environment to implement and improve security controls across endpoints, identities, apps, cloud services and infrastructure. You will monitor threats, support incident response, and collaborate with IT teams to remediate vulnerabilities and harden configurations. This opportunity combines practical security engineering with a focus on compliance and automation to drive risk reduction. You will operate in Manchester with hybrid work and have the chance to shape security capabilities at scale.

Responsibilities

• Deliver security projects and initiatives across the Cyber Security Roadmap
• Manage and enhance Microsoft Defender, Intune, Entra ID, and Microsoft 365 security controls
• Improve security across endpoints, identities, applications, cloud services, and infrastructure
• Support vulnerability identification, prioritisation, and remediation
• Monitor security alerts and assist incident investigation and response
• Collaborate with IT teams to resolve vulnerabilities and configuration issues
• Maintain security controls and support Cyber Essentials, Cyber Essentials Plus, and CIS Controls
• Produce clear technical documentation and security procedures
• Identify opportunities to automate security processes and improve efficiency

Key requirements

• Experience administering and improving Microsoft 365 security controls
• Hands-on experience with Defender technologies, including Defender for Endpoint and Microsoft 365 Defender
• Experience supporting vulnerability management and remediation
• Knowledge of security monitoring, alert triage, incident response, and technical investigation
• Experience configuring or supporting security controls across cloud, endpoint, and identity platforms
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a practical approach to reducing cyber risk
