This is a greatopportunity for an employment lawyeras a Senior Legal Counsel within Sky’sin house HR Legal team.
We seek a motivated,collaborative and commercially minded lawyer who is able to supportacross the full breadth of employment law issues, primarily in UK& Ireland but with scope across Sky’s footprint in otherjurisdictions. The role will offer a wide variety of cutting-edgework and provide first-class opportunities for development andgrowth, both within the team and more broadly across the departmentand the Sky Group.
Our team is part of the SkyLegal team with around 200 UK based lawyers. Sky is fast paced andchallenging, but it’s also a people first business with friendly,amazing colleagues and real opportunities to grow yourcareer.
You will have the opportunity toexperience a wide range of work for multiple clients andstakeholders across the Sky Group. The variety of work is unique inthe UK – ranging across the entire TMT sector from market leadingSports and News issues, to Sky Studios productions, to our keyvolume areas including our engineers, retail and contact centrepopulations.
This is an exciting time to join theHR Legal team. Our business is increasingly focused on large andstrategic projects, and HR Legal are a growing team with a key seatat the table in guiding and delivering this change. Sky hasrecently made significant announcements around its future, and youwill play a major part in shaping that.
The rolewill report into Stephen Hall, Head Counsel of the HR Legal teambased in our West London offices.
What you’lldo
Provideclear, commercial and practical advice to HR, business leaders andinternal lawyers regarding the full range of contentious andnon-contentious employment law issues – primarily in UK&I butwith an internationalscope.
Support HR and thebusiness to deliver Sky’s ambitious transformation and M&Aprogramme, working on and driving key strategic projects and othercommercialpriorities.
Exposure tosenior leadership providing timely, concise and effective advice onkey HR projects and risks – with accountability for providingcreative and risk-based solutions, and driving positiveoutcomes.
Opportunity towork both independently and as a team – building effectiverelationships with HR and legal colleagues and the wider Skybusinesses (including Sky Group and NBCUniversal).
Coach anddevelop other team members within the HR Legal team and broader SkyLegal team – including supervising our Paralegals who conduct ouremployment tribunal litigation inhouse.
Retain, instruct andmanage the work of outside counsel in a manner which promotesefficiency andcost-effectiveness
Whatyou’ll bring
Essential criteria:
Extensive experience in UKemployment law issues within a highly regarded law firm orequivalentin-house
Experience ofmanaging i) large scale restructuring and M&A projects, ii)reputational management issues, and ii) trade unionissues
Ability toeffectively supervise on tribunalclaims
Commerciality– Ability to cut through complexity and provide creative, practicaland risk basedsolutions
Exceptionalcommunication skills – Ability to clearly andeffectively communicate advice to and manage a complex network ofseniorstakeholders
Independentand pro-active – Ability to give legal advicequickly and independently, escalating at the appropriate time anddriving mattersforward
Greatteam player – Strong interpersonal skills and theability to build rapport and establish trust and businesspartnering at alllevels
Growth– Optimistic, open minded and willing to support others in theirdevelopment.
