Vickerstock are working in partnership with a leading engineering and manufacturing organisation on the appointment of an Operations Supervisor – Material Preparation.

Reporting into the Production Site Manager, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Material Preparation department, overseeing material flow, production planning, team performance and the efficient supply of components to the wider fabrication operation.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced material handling or production professional with a heavy engineering background to take ownership of a key operational function within a growing manufacturing environment.

In your new role:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the Material Preparation department, including team supervision, workload planning and coordination of materials to meet production deadlines.
  • Manage steel nesting, inventory, material traceability and subcontracted processing to maximise material utilisation, minimise waste and ensure timely availability of components.
  • Maintain accurate production schedules, stock records and job documentation, ensuring materials are processed in line with engineering drawings, specifications and quality standards.
  • Monitor equipment condition, production performance and material availability, addressing operational issues and promoting continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety procedures, quality requirements and housekeeping standards, while supporting team training and development.

What you will need to succeed:

  • Minimum 5 years’ material handling experience within heavy engineering or a similar manufacturing environment, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or team leadership role.
  • Experience in production planning, workflow management, inventory control and meeting production targets.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications, with a sound understanding of engineering processes and quality standards.
  • Strong leadership, organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across production and operational teams.
