Employer Bio

Lister Steps at The Old Library is a value-led community charity established in 1997, originally founded by parents for parents to address the need for community services and affordable childcare in Liverpool. With nearly thirty years of history serving local people, Lister Steps has grown into a well-loved and trusted organisation delivering high-quality outcomes for some of the most disadvantaged communities in the Liverpool City Region.

Following the successful restoration of the Grade II listed Carnegie Library on Green Lane, L13 — funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and completed in 2020 — Lister Steps relocated to The Old Library, a stunning historic building redesigned with children and the community in mind. Today The Old Library is home to the Lister Steps Nursery, a café, event and conference space, lettable office space, community gardens, and a wide range of activities including arts and crafts, yoga, adult education and community events. Lister Steps reinvests its commercial income to support its charitable mission, with a vision to be the spark that makes its area a better place to live and work.
