Job Description:

Technical Lead – Software Engineering & AI

Enjoy leading an engineering team while staying hands‑on with development?

Adria Solutions is recruiting Technical Leads for a technology business building a new platform. With established backing and an early engineering team, the business offers significant scope to influence architecture, delivery and development standards.

The opportunity

Working directly with the CTO, you’ll combine production coding with technical leadership. You’ll help turn requirements into well‑designed software, resolve complex challenges and support colleagues through mentoring and code reviews.

There are two opportunities, suited to different technical backgrounds:

  • Node.js / TypeScript: Developing application services, APIs, database‑backed features and integrations, with scope to contribute across the stack.
  • Java / Kotlin / Scala: Developing backend services and asynchronous, event‑driven systems with a focus on reliability and secure integration.

Experience in one of these stacks is sufficient—you do not need both.

What you’ll do

  • Design and build scalable services, taking features from initial concept through to production.
  • Provide technical direction while remaining actively involved in coding.
  • Resolve engineering blockers and help the team make practical design decisions.
  • Review code, mentor colleagues and establish consistent development practices.
  • Build and maintain integrations with external systems.
  • Work with platform engineers to improve automated testing and deployment pipelines.
  • Apply strong security, performance and reliability standards.
  • Support live services and use production feedback to improve the platform.
  • Collaborate with product, design and other engineering disciplines.

You’ll use AI coding tools as a regular part of your development workflow and help colleagues get value from them.

We’re looking for someone who can critically assess generated code, validate its behaviour and maintain strong engineering standards. The Node.js/TypeScript opportunity also offers scope to develop AI-powered product features.

What you’ll bring

  • At least eight years’ commercial software development experience.
  • Strong hands‑on experience with Node.js/TypeScript or Java/Kotlin/Scala.
  • A track record of mentoring engineers and guiding technical delivery.
  • Strong database knowledge and experience integrating third‑party services.
  • Confidence owning software throughout its development and operational lifecycle.
  • Regular use of AI coding tools in an enterprise production environment.
  • A solid grounding in automated testing, version control, CI/CD and secure coding.
  • The ability to take ownership and work effectively within a small, growing team.

For the Node.js/TypeScript position, experience delivering features across the full stack is relevant. For the Java/Kotlin/Scala position, asynchronous processing and event‑driven architecture are key.

Experience building new platforms, working in regulated environments, or using cloud services, containers and infrastructure as code would be beneficial.

The package

You’ll receive a £90.000 – £95,000 salary, 1-2 days working in Manchester, a company pension and a generous holiday allowance with bank holidays on top.

The business also offers continued learning support, opportunities for progression and substantial input into the platform’s technical direction.

Applicants must have the right to work in the UK without requiring visa sponsorship.
