Head of Technology | London Hedge Fund | Build the function, grow with the firm

We’re partnering with a fast-growing London hedge fund to find their first dedicated Head of Technology. Technology at our client has always sat within the COO’s office. As the firm scales and AI changes what’s possible, they’re ready to give it a leader and an identity of its own. They want to move away from reliance on managed service providers, build a modern cloud infrastructure, and bring technology capability in-house. This is a chance to build rather than inherit. There’s no legacy empire to untangle, and you’d have real ownership and direct access to senior leadership.

The role

• Own technology strategy and delivery, working closely with the COO and the leadership team




• Lead the planned transition away from MSPs, bringing infrastructure, support and security in-house at the right pace




• Design, build and run a secure, resilient cloud environment suited to a regulated investment business




• Identify and deliver practical AI and automation opportunities across investment and operational workflows




• Hire and develop the firm’s first engineers, setting the standards and culture of the team




• Manage vendors, budgets and partnerships, keeping external providers where they add value




• Ensure information security, business continuity and regulatory expectations keep pace with growth

The person

• 12 to 15 years’ experience in technology, with a clear progression into leadership




• Background in financial services, ideally hedge funds, asset management or another regulated, fast-moving environment




• Hands-on experience designing and delivering cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure or GCP), including security and resilience




• Experience managing or exiting MSP and outsourced IT arrangements is a strong advantage




• Curious about AI, and focused on measurable value over hype




• Commercially minded, able to explain technical decisions to non-technical principals




• Ambitious to grow into a bigger role. The firm is not looking for a seasoned CTO. They want someone ready to step up and become one with them.
