Principal Structural Engineer

Overview

In this role you lead structural delivery on complex building projects within Stantec’s Civil & Structural team in London. You’ll shape design solutions from concept through construction, ensuring quality, schedules, and commercial performance. You’ll manage resources, programmes, and budgets while engaging with clients and contributing to business development. You’ll mentor engineers, strengthen delivery capability, and help grow client relationships to support the firm’s ongoing expansion. This is a cross‑functional, impact‑driven position that blends technical leadership with opportunities to influence future work.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of structural delivery across building projects ensuring technical quality, programme alignment and commercial performance
• Guide design from concept to construction in collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders
• Oversee resources, programme and budget control to meet client expectations and internal standards
• Support client engagement and contribute to relationship management and bids/proposals
• Contribute to team development and a collaborative, high‑performing environment
• Participate in shaping project outcomes and the growth of the team

Key requirements

• Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering (BEng/MEng or equivalent)
• Chartered with IStructE or ICE
• Experience supporting or leading engineers with an interest in team development
• Interest in building client relationships and contributing to business development
