Senior Project Planner – Special Projects

Overview

In this role you will lead end-to-end planning for complex engineering programmes within the Special Projects team at the Advanced Manufacturing Facility in Ampthill. You will act as the planning integrator, ensuring schedule and cost alignment across stakeholders, and you’ll drive performance through risk integration and schedule health metrics. The role combines proposal planning, programme execution support, and management of baseline maintenance and reviews. You’ll contribute to cutting-edge defence projects with a strong emphasis on collaboration and disciplined planning.

Responsibilities

• Maintain end-to-end planning lifecycle from proposal to execution
• Lead proposal planning and create planning artefacts for solicitations
• Act as planning integrator interfacing with program management, senior management and customers
• Validate cost and schedule integration for performance management
• Coordinate vertical and horizontal integration of schedules and artefacts
• Model and measure risks and opportunities with schedule and cost baselines
• Resolve schedule conflicts and implement workaround strategies
• Use performance metrics to drive actions for program improvement
• Update IMS on a weekly and monthly basis and maintain the Performance Measurement Baseline
• Generate Schedule Information for reviews with clients and management
• Support the Project Business Rhythm
• Contribute to client and management reviews with timely schedule information

Key requirements

• Experience as a Project Planner or PMO Planning role
• Experience with Primavera P6 or similar planning software
• Experience with resource-loaded schedules
• Experience with Earned Value Management and Critical Path Management
• Confident in applying planning best practices under pressure
• Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
• Ability to quickly adapt to new tools, systems and processes
