Principal Structural Engineer

Overview

As Principal Structural Engineer, you lead the design and coordination of structural aspects across diverse projects in the UK. You will manage technical and commercial delivery, guiding teams of engineers and BIM modellers while interfacing with clients. You’ll validate technical quality and mentor colleagues, contributing to safe, sustainable, and landmark architectures. This role offers impactful work on data centres, gigafactories, manufacturing facilities, and other public and industrial buildings. You will join a multidisciplinary team committed to improving quality of life through smart design.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and coordination of structures on varied projects within the team
• Manage technical and commercial delivery, directing structural engineers and BIM modellers
• Interface with clients and stakeholders to align on requirements and outcomes
• Contribute to the technical quality process by reviewing and validating work
• Mentor engineers and colleagues within project teams and broader initiatives

Key requirements

• Professional qualification, ideally chartered member of IStructE or ICE
• Existing SC clearance or eligible to obtain SC clearance
• Strong technical ability in structural principles gained from diverse project experience
• Familiarity with commonly used structural materials and on-site application
• Knowledge of structural analysis and design programs
• Commitment to health and safety and awareness of legal requirements
• Excellent communication and technical reporting skills
• Attention to detail and ability to review others’ work for quality
• Interest in sustainable solutions and outcomes
• Ability to manage teams and resources and willingness to mentor others
