Data and AI – AI Engineer

Overview

In this role you will shape and deliver large-scale AI and data transformations for enterprise clients within Wavestone’s UK Data & AI practice. You’ll work on advisory and hands-on delivery, spanning AI strategy, GenAI implementations, and modern AI architectures. You’ll design end-to-end AI solutions, write production-grade code, and guide clients through complex technical choices while ensuring delivery quality and impact. This role offers cross-functional collaboration, thought leadership, and the opportunity to scale practical AI delivery across industries. Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver AI-driven transformation engagements from strategy to deployment
• Design and implement end-to-end AI solutions and production-grade code (Python, TypeScript/JavaScript)
• Develop agentic systems, RAG pipelines, and model-orchestration layers
• Guide clients through technical decisions and ensure delivery success (timelines, risks)
• Drive business development, pre-sales support, and RFP responses with AI engineering expertise
• Contribute to thought leadership, accelerators, and reusable methodologies
• Mentor consultants and engineers to grow internal capability
• Maintain deep expertise in LLMs, agentic systems, and cloud-native AI tooling

Key requirements

• Strong hands-on programming skills (Python, TypeScript/JavaScript)
• Proven production experience with AI/LLM-powered applications
• Deep understanding of AI/GenAI fundamentals, including evaluation
• Experience designing RAG systems and agentic workflows
• Tool-using AI applications and API-driven architectures
• Cloud platforms experience (AWS, Azure, GCP)
• Solid software engineering practices (testing, CI/CD, version control)
• Client-facing experience and ability to lead teams/projects
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
