Lead Data Engineer

Overview

In this role you will shape and lead the data engineering function within a scaling AI-powered SaaS business. You will set engineering standards, mentor a growing team, and own critical data pipelines from conception to production. You’ll work closely with product and tech leaders to raise delivery quality while keeping hands-on involvement with complex data challenges. This is a chance to build a principled, scalable data platform that directly delivers value to customers, with a strong emphasis on AI-enabled data work.

Responsibilities

• Define engineering standards, tooling, and ways of working
• Line management, mentoring, and recruitment
• Develop SQL-led transformation pipelines and Python orchestration
• Code review, automated testing, Git workflows and CI/CD
• Data modelling, deployment controls, and production reliability
• Integrate AI outputs into production data pipelines
• Adopt AI engineering tools with validation and quality controls

Key requirements

• Experience building or significantly m improving a Data Engineering function
• Proven line-management experience and track record of developing engineers
• Strong hands-on SQL and Python skills
• Solid experience in data modelling, cloud infrastructure and deployment automation
• Judgement to balance delivery with maintainability and quality
