Systems Engineering Manager

Overview

In Boeing Defence UK, you will lead a team of systems and training engineers, guiding performance and development while delivering engineering work for programmes and bids. You balance line management with hands-on input to ensure milestones are met and collaboration spans cross-functional teams. You will champion a culture of accountability, technical excellence, and continuous improvement. This role supports major UK defence contracts and enterprise engineering goals, offering a meaningful impact at scale.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Systems Engineering team, including HR, wellbeing and admin responsibilities
• Coach, mentor and develop team members with growth opportunities
• Foster accountability, teamwork and technical excellence across the group
• Promote knowledge sharing and ongoing skills development
• Ensure delivery of team engineering goals and milestones
• Drive Continuous Improvement initiatives within the team
• Contribute to Systems Engineering work across programmes and bids with cross-functional teams
• Collaborate with Business Unit Chief Engineers on resource planning to meet workload
• Plan for succession to meet future business needs
• Support the wider department and Senior Manager as needed
• Build and maintain networks with Engineering colleagues across the Enterprise

Key requirements

• At least one year in a leadership role or equivalent leadership experience
• Degree-level qualification in Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related discipline
• Ability to work with dispersed teams across locations
• Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Strong stakeholder management, team-building and leadership experience
• Ability to influence and engage at multiple levels within the organisation
• Experience coaching and developing technical talent
• Excellent leadership, communication, influencing and people skills
