Principal Engineer – Tunnelling

Overview

As Principal Engineer, you’ll lead and apply expert geotechnical and tunnel design knowledge to complex European projects, guiding multidisciplinary teams and ensuring delivery with safety, quality and sustainability in mind. You will build strong client relationships and shape innovative, sustainable solutions for infrastructure. The role sits at the Geotechnical and Tunnelling team, contributing to asset management and new build developments. This position offers impact through leadership, technical excellence, and collaboration across high-profile clients.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate detailed knowledge of structural and geotechnical aspects of tunnel design, tunnelling methodologies, and construction practices
• Provide technical guidance and support to multidisciplinary teams, fostering collaboration and professional growth
• Manage projects by setting clear goals, monitoring progress, and maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and sustainability
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and stakeholders, ensuring their needs are met and exceeded
• Contribute to the development of sustainable and forward-thinking engineering solutions that enhance communities and drive progress in infrastructure

Key requirements

• Significant expertise in geotechnical and tunnelling engineering, with experience in both new build and asset management projects
• Chartered Engineer status (or equivalent)
• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
• Proven experience in delivering complex engineering projects with a focus on quality, safety, and sustainability
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively manage client and team relationships
