Group Information Governance Manager

Overview

In this role you will provide senior, strategic information governance expertise across two NHS trusts, overseeing the operational delivery of the IG function. You will work with diverse stakeholders at regional and national levels to ensure compliance with legislation and implement the IG strategy in practice. You may deputise for the Group Head of IG, including performing Data Protection Officer duties where required. The position focuses on shaping governance processes, managing risk, and driving cross-organisational IG delivery.

Responsibilities

• Provide senior and strategic information governance subject matter expertise for both Trusts
• Oversee operational management and delivery of the Information Governance function
• Support compliance with relevant legislation and implement IG strategy into operations
• Translate strategic direction into actionable delivery and, when needed, deputise for the Group Head of IG (including DPO duties)
• Lead cross-organisational IG activities and stakeholder engagement
• Manage and develop IG processes and staff capability
• Provide advisory & communication on IG issues and risk mitigation
• Plan and manage information resources and governance risk within the organisation

Key requirements

• Demonstrable experience in Information Governance / Data Protection within a complex organisation
• Experience of managing IG processes (DPIAs, breaches, FOI, SARs)
• Experience contributing to IG strategy implementation
• Experience in managing or supervising staff
• Degree or equivalent in Information Governance, Data Protection, or related field
• Specialist IG knowledge or professional qualification (e.g. BCS/ISEB)
• Continuing professional development in IG / Data Protection
• Knowledge of UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, FOI Act 2000, Caldicott principles
• Knowledge of NHS IG frameworks and DSPT requirements
• Ability to interpret legislation and apply to operational scenarios
