Consultant Psychiatrist – Trafford – Medlock Ward

Overview

In this role you will provide medical leadership on an inpatient ward, shaping care for an 21-bedded unit and contributing to service development. You will work within an MDT to deliver comprehensive psychiatric care, manage emergencies, and uphold the Mental Health Act framework. The post supports flexible or part-time arrangements and potential research interests, within a supportive Consultant group. This is a chance to drive trauma-informed, patient-centred care in a large NHS trust.

Responsibilities

• Provide medical leadership for MDT meetings
• Perform comprehensive psychiatric assessments and treat inpatients
• Support ward staff in managing psychiatric emergencies
• Lead patient reviews and multidisciplinary ward/CPA meetings
• Act as responsible clinician under the Mental Health Act and maintain status
• Conduct risk assessments and contribute to risk management
• Maintain effective communication across services and with families and carers
• Prepare Mental Health Tribunal reports and participate in Tribunal processes
• Assess for use of Mental Health Act, consent to treatment, and manage leave under Section 17

Key requirements

• Medical Degree
• Specialist Register with GMC
• Desirable MRCPsych or equivalent
• Current UK professional registration
• Disclosure and Barring Service checks
