Are you a practical engineer who enjoys working out how things are designed, built and manufactured?
We are recruiting for a well-established manufacturing business in Newry that produces specialist products and structures for customers across the UK, Ireland and international markets.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer with a strong understanding of metal fabrication, manufacturing and practical design to take ownership of the technical side of the business.
We aren’t necessarily looking for someone with a management title or a particular qualification. What’s more important is your ability to look at a drawing or concept, work out how to build it, and turn that into a practical, cost-effective solution.
The Role
Working directly with the Managing Director, you will play a key role in developing practical engineering solutions and supporting the company’s manufacturing operations.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Turning customer drawings, specifications and concepts into practical designs that can be manufactured and installed.
- Working out how products and supporting structures should be constructed, including materials, dimensions, joints, frames, brackets and fixings.
- Producing or developing clear technical drawings, sketches and manufacturing instructions.
- Working closely with workshop and production colleagues to resolve engineering challenges and improve manufacturing methods.
- Ensuring designs are practical, cost-effective and meet relevant technical and safety requirements.
- Helping develop standard designs and specifications to improve consistency and efficiency.
- Providing technical guidance and overseeing a small team involved in graphics and print production.
You’ll have the freedom to make engineering decisions, improve existing methods and become a key technical resource within the business.
The Person
We are particularly interested in speaking with people who have worked in metal fabrication, sheet metal manufacturing, general engineering, structural products or similar environments.
You might currently be a Design Engineer, Fabrication Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Draughtsperson, Engineering Supervisor or an experienced fabrication professional with strong technical knowledge.
Ideally, you’ll bring:
- Good practical knowledge of how metal products and structures are fabricated and assembled.
- The ability to interpret technical drawings and develop workable manufacturing solutions.
- Experience solving engineering and fabrication problems, balancing practicality, cost and quality.
- Confidence working directly with production teams and taking responsibility for technical decisions.
- An organised, methodical approach and good communication skills.
Experience in aluminium or steel fabrication, structural frames, brackets and fixings would be particularly relevant.
Previous people-management experience is not essential. We would welcome applications from experienced engineers who are ready to take on greater responsibility.
This isn’t a role where you’ll simply sit at a desk producing drawings all day.
You’ll have a real say in how things are designed and manufactured, work closely with the people who build them, and help shape the technical future of an established business.
For someone who enjoys practical engineering challenges and wants more ownership of their work, it offers an excellent opportunity.
To Apply
If you have a practical engineering background and enjoy solving manufacturing and fabrication challenges, we’d be keen to hear from you. Please apply with your CV, using the appropriate method or contact Darcie at Lucas Executive Search for a confidential discussion.
All enquiries will be treated in strict confidence.
