Senior Design Engineer
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Design Engineer to join its engineering team in Dundalk. This is an excellent opportunity to work with an established engineering manufacturer specialising in the design and development of mechanical equipment and specialist machinery.
The successful candidate will play an important role in mechanical design, product development and engineering improvements, working on technically challenging projects that require a combination of creative design, practical engineering knowledge and strong problem-solving skills.
This position will suit an experienced Design Engineer who enjoys being hands-on with mechanical design, taking ownership of engineering challenges and working closely with manufacturing teams to turn designs into reliable, high-quality finished products.
The role is predominantly site-based, allowing close collaboration with engineering colleagues and direct involvement with manufacturing and production operations.

The Role:
Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies and systems for specialist machinery and equipment.
Produce detailed 3D CAD models, engineering drawings and manufacturing documentation.
Take responsibility for mechanical design activities from initial requirements through to final production.
Review and improve existing designs to enhance product performance, durability, reliability and manufacturability.
Develop practical engineering solutions to technical design and manufacturing challenges.
Work closely with production and assembly teams to ensure designs are suitable for efficient manufacture.
Support prototype development, product testing and design validation activities.
Review mechanical components, material specifications and manufacturing processes.
Identify opportunities for cost reduction, design optimisation and continuous improvement.
Participate in engineering design reviews and contribute to technical decision-making.
Ensure designs consider quality, safety, performance, serviceability and manufacturing requirements.
The Person:
Degree or relevant qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Design Engineering or a related discipline.
At least 3 years’ relevant mechanical design engineering experience, ideally within a manufacturing or machinery environment.
Strong 3D CAD design capability, with Creo preferred.
Experienced SolidWorks users with transferable 3D CAD skills will also be considered.
Experience designing mechanical components and assemblies from concept through to manufacture.
Good understanding of mechanical engineering principles, material selection and manufacturing processes.
Ability to produce detailed manufacturing drawings and technical documentation.
Experience working closely with manufacturing and production teams.
Strong technical problem-solving skills and ability to develop practical engineering solutions.
Previous experience with new product development, design improvements or mechanical product engineering would be advantageous.
A creative, hands-on approach to engineering with the ability to work independently and take ownership of projects.
Experience within machinery manufacturing, agricultural equipment, automotive, materials handling, construction equipment or other mechanical engineering environments would be beneficial.
