General Manager – FM Hard Services

Overview

As General Manager, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for Hard FM and contract services, ensuring delivery within budget and contractual targets. You’ll lead the Operations team, manage client and stakeholder relationships, and drive continuous improvement in asset management and service delivery. You’ll foster safety, environment and sustainability initiatives while enabling career development and succession planning. This role offers the chance to shape complex projects and growth opportunities across lifecycle and capital works.

Responsibilities

• Full operational profit accountability for the contract
• Delivery of Hard FM services at the site, including Projects and Lifecycle
• Lead and develop the Operations team and support the Performance and Compliance and Capital Works teams
• Oversee Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental management; develop HSE action plan
• Set operational/commercial targets and report progress monthly
• Manage client and stakeholder relationships to drive collaboration
• Mobilise resources to meet timescales and budgets; foster a culture of continuous improvement
• Ensure staff have development plans, succession plans, and engagement
• Implement effective performance review and management information to drive maintenance performance
• Support growth opportunities including lifecycle and capital works and assist work-winning efforts

Key requirements

• Track record delivering complex major projects and long-term service delivery in Hard and Soft FM
• Strong leadership, commercial and financial acumen with clear direction to a wide team
• Knowledge of commercial and legal structures; ideally PFI/PPP
• Experience in the public sector
• Minimum 3 years in a senior level managing contracts and service delivery
• Educated to Degree level (or equivalent); professional qualification to fellowship level preferred
• Experience in the Defence Sector desirable
• Security status (SC) or Developed Vetting capability
