Principal Civil Engineer – Water

Overview

In this role you will lead civil engineering design delivery for water and wastewater infrastructure within a Regulated Water Asset Design team. You will work with long-standing clients and multidisciplinary teams across the UK, contributing to AMP8-linked projects and international opportunities. You will progress from Senior to Principal, taking greater ownership, steering technical solutions and client relationships. Responsibilities

• Take ownership of project delivery across wastewater treatment, water treatment, sewerage and water networks
• Coordinate and lead multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver high-quality design solutions
• Ensure health and safety, technical quality, programme and budget adherence
• Build and maintain strong client relationships and capture requirements for successful outcomes
• Identify opportunities to broaden service offerings through collaboration across UK and international teams
• Contribute to innovative engineering approaches, digital solutions and new services
• Support sustainability initiatives including Future Ready and Net Zero transition
• Assist with bids, proposals, resource planning and budget development
• Mentor and support graduate engineers and degree apprentices in their technical development
• Support recruitment, team development and growth of the civil engineering function
• Continue developing technical, project management and leadership capabilities

Key requirements

• Degree in Civil Engineering
• Chartered Engineer status or significant progress toward ICE or CIWEM membership
• Experience managing or coordinating engineering design teams (civil and supporting disciplines)
• Proven ability to deliver projects within budgets and timescales
• Experience undertaking technical checking, design reviews or technical approval for linear civil infrastructure or process-related design
• Experience mentoring or coaching junior engineers and supporting their development
• Client-facing experience with ability to understand and meet client requirements
• Strong written, verbal and presentation skills for clear technical communication
