Legal Counsel

Overview

In this Legal Counsel role, you will advise across a broad range of commercial and regulatory matters, partnering with business teams to enable growth. You’ll renegotiate customer, partner, and supplier contracts while contributing to templates and playbooks. The role emphasizes scalable, automated processes and practical risk management to enhance the customer experience. You’ll join a busy legal team driving forward-thinking governance to support GoCardless’ expansion.

Responsibilities

• Review and negotiate customer, partnership and supplier contracts with pragmatic commercial focus
• Contribute to projects such as rollout of new templates
• Develop and maintain self-help tools, playbooks and guides for the legal team and wider business
• Drive process improvements for high-volume contracting, including automation and workflow enhancements
• Be prepared to handle legal issues across a wide range of topics as needed

Key requirements

• Qualified lawyer with private practice training and/or in-house experience in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work independently and apply knowledge across diverse legal areas
• Interest in technology and willingness to engage in tech-enabled solutions
• Strong communication skills able to simplify complex legal concepts
• Experience with Legal AI tools is advantageous
• Project management and cross-functional collaboration mindset
