Software Engineer

Overview

In this role you will design, implement, and enhance software solutions for secure, scalable fintech systems. You’ll work closely with product, design, data science, QA, and operations to translate requirements into robust technology while aligning with security and regulatory standards. You’ll code extensively, leverage AI-assisted tools, and participate in architecture discussions to deliver meaningful business outcomes. This hybrid UK-based position offers impact at scale and cross-functional collaboration. You’ll contribute to high-quality software that supports Visa’s mission to enable payments globally.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with stakeholders to interpret requirements and integrate feedback into designs or fixes
• Translate business requirements by validating assumptions and flagging potential design issues
• Participate in system design, architecture, and design documentation
• Contribute to project estimation and escalate delays
• Develop, implement, and maintain code for products, services, or components following best practices
• Apply debugging tools to verify assumptions and proactively identify issues
• Participate in code reviews to ensure coding standards
• Create test plans and configure testing procedures to identify defects across features
• Respond to support requests during on-call rotations and deploy fixes under guidance
• Leverage developer tools to build, debug, and maintain components
• Invest in training to improve product availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance
• Participate in Production Support rota (weekdays and weekends)
• Work in a hybrid office setup in Reading, UK

Key requirements

• Relevant work experience and a Bachelor’s degree
• Experience building and testing enterprise-scale web services (min 1 year)
• Experience on client-facing projects or technical teams (min 1 year)
• Experience in integrating feedback into design and fixes
• Experience mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with cross-functional teams
• Experience in technologies/software systems or related field (min 2 years)
• Experience developing back end applications (min 2 years)
• Experience in system design and architecture for product components
• Experience debugging and troubleshooting software issues
• Experience code reviews and applying coding standards
• Experience test planning and execution for software features
• Experience responding to support requests and deploying fixes
• Experience using software development tools for code creation and maintenance
