We’re recruiting a Technical Manager for an established engineering and technology business based in Wokingham. This is a hands-on technical leadership position, managing a small multidisciplinary team while remaining closely involved in the engineering itself. The role is weighted towards electrical/electronic engineering, but we’re specifically looking for someone with enough mechanical engineering knowledge to take a broader systems-level view. You’ll be working across the design, integration, manufacture and testing of technical systems, taking customer requirements and helping turn them into robust, manufacturable solutions. Applicants must hold a British passport due to the requirements of the MOD projects supported by the business. The role You’ll take responsibility for both technical delivery and line management, including:
- Leading and developing a multidisciplinary technical team
- Managing workload, priorities and engineering delivery
- Electrical/electronic system design and integration
- Supporting mechanical design and system integration activities
- High-level system architecture
- Embedded hardware and power supplies
- Prototype build, integration and test
- Component selection and technical specification
- EMC and environmental testing
- Fault finding, repair and modification
- Producing technical, build and test documentation
- Supporting manufacturing and resolving production issues
- Providing technical input during customer and commercial discussions
- Maintaining appropriate engineering and quality standards
The underlying brief requires broad experience across electronics design, manufacture and test, high-level systems design, embedded boards, power supplies and EMC/environmental testing.
The key requirement is engineering breadth. You’ll ideally bring:
- Strong electrical/electronic engineering experience
- Some mechanical engineering or electromechanical systems experience
- Experience managing and developing engineers/technical personnel
- Electronic system design and integration experience
- Embedded hardware and/or power electronics knowledge
- Experience taking systems through build, test and troubleshooting
- Understanding of EMC and environmental requirements
- Strong customer-facing and technical problem-solving skills
A degree in engineering, electronics or a related discipline would be useful, although equivalent industry experience will also be considered.
