Senior Quantity Surveyor – Rail

Overview

In this role you will lead cost control for large rail subcontract packages, reporting monthly forecasts and ensuring contractual and commercial compliance. You’ll manage subcontracts, change control, and final accounts while mentoring junior team members. Working with a leading rail contractor, you’ll apply contract knowledge to maximise value and minimise waste on rail and civils projects. This is a stakeholder-facing, impact-driven position within a growing commercial team.

Responsibilities

• Produce monthly cost reports and forecasts
• Ensure commercial policies and procedures are followed
• Prepare and manage sub-contract documentation
• Process sub-contractor payment applications
• Agree sub-contractor final accounts
• Manage variations and change control
• Mentor junior commercial team members
• Support the commercial team in project delivery

Key requirements

• Experience in rail and civils construction
• Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying and/or Construction Law
• Minimum 2 years’ Senior Quantity Surveyor experience
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills
• Experience interpreting contracts/contractual terms
• Knowledge of Network Rail standard forms of contract
• Collaborative, proactive problem-solver
• Understanding of waste minimisation and value for money
• Full driving licence
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 suite
