Location: Nottingham
Job Description:

Join Our IT Team at The Compleat Food Group!

Location: Flexible (Hybrid)

Contract: Permanent

About the Role

We’re looking for a practical, customer-focused DevOps Engineer to join our IT team. This is a varied role that sits at the heart of our business systems landscape, supporting the infrastructure, applications, integrations and automation that keep our operations running smoothly.

Working as part of a team of four DevOps Engineers, you’ll become a key technical contact across a complex environment of around 70 business-critical systems. While automation and scripting form part of the role, this position is far more operations-focused than software development focused. We’re looking for someone who enjoys troubleshooting, investigating issues, supporting users and improving the reliability of systems in a fast-paced FMCG environment.

You’ll work closely with Product Owners, data specialists, subject matter experts and business stakeholders, helping to maintain and continuously improve a diverse technology estate.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Supporting and maintaining a diverse landscape of business-critical systems, applications and integrations across the business.
  • Investigating, troubleshooting and resolving technical, application and data-related issues, acting as a key escalation point for users.
  • Writing and using SQL queries to analyse data, diagnose issues and support operational decision-making.
  • Developing and improving automation, monitoring and deployment processes to enhance reliability and efficiency.
  • Working with cloud technologies, infrastructure and ERP systems to ensure high levels of performance and availability.
  • Producing and maintaining clear technical documentation while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participating in a 1-in-4 on-call rota and collaborating closely with technical teams and business stakeholders.

About You

We’re open to candidates from a variety of backgrounds. You may have gained experience within an IT department, worked in a DevOps, Infrastructure or Systems role, or recently completed a relevant degree alongside hands-on IT experience.

We’re particularly interested in people who are curious, proactive and comfortable working directly with users to solve problems. This role would suit someone who enjoys understanding how systems work, building relationships with stakeholders and taking ownership of issues through to resolution.

We’d Love to See

  • Experience working within an IT, Infrastructure, Systems Support, DevOps or similar technical environment.
  • Strong SQL skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex system or data issues.
  • Experience supporting ERP systems and business-critical applications.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure, AWS or GCP) and automation technologies.
  • Experience within a fast-paced FMCG, manufacturing or operationally focused environment would be highly advantageous.
  • Knowledge of Python, CI/CD tools, Docker, Kubernetes or Infrastructure as Code technologies would be beneficial.
  • Excellent communication skills with the confidence to work directly with users and stakeholders.

Why Join Us?

  • Work across a broad and varied technology landscape.
  • Gain exposure to cloud technologies, ERP platforms, integrations, automation and infrastructure.
  • Join a collaborative and knowledgeable team where continuous learning is encouraged.
  • Play a key role in driving operational excellence and improving business-critical systems.
  • Enjoy genuine ownership, autonomy and the opportunity to make a visible impact.

This role is ideal for someone who combines strong technical problem-solving skills with a customer-focused mindset and enjoys working in a fast-paced operational environment.
