Senior Legal Counsel

Company: Conquer AI
Apply for the Senior Legal Counsel
Location: London
Job Description:

Conquer AI builds and deploys AI solutions for enterprise customers in the UK and US. That includes forward-deployed engineering teams, fixed-scope AI builds and Dreamstack, our SaaS platform. We are a fast-growing, venture-backed group, and our customers include some of the largest organisations in life sciences, financial services and real estate.

The role

We are hiring our first in-house lawyer. You will be the legal lead for the group, working directly with the CEO and CFO, with a route to General Counsel as the business scales.

You will own commercial contracting end to end, lead on disputes, support funding rounds and M&A, and advise on corporate, employment, data protection and compliance matters. You will manage our external counsel in the UK and US, and build the legal foundations of a scaling company from the ground up.

What you will do

  • Run customer contracts across our UK and US entities, including MSAs, SOWs, SaaS agreements, DPAs and NDAs, often negotiating on customer paper. You will also own supplier, contractor and partner contracts.
  • Build our templates, negotiation playbook and contracts management process, from a single intake route to a central register, renewal tracking and regular reporting to the CEO and CFO.
  • Support venture funding rounds and M&A alongside the CFO and external counsel, from term sheets and due diligence through to completion. You will also run governance and company secretarial work for the UK companies, with oversight of our Delaware entity.
  • Lead disputes from first notice to resolution, including litigation strategy in the UK and US, instructing external counsel and controlling their budgets.
  • Advise on employment and contractor status (IR35 and US classification), data protection, and our ISO 27001 and SOC 2 programmes.
  • Negotiate AI-specific terms with customers and suppliers, including ownership of outputs, model and data warranties and liability for AI-generated content, and track AI regulation as it develops.

About you

You have spent your in-house career close to the product, negotiating enterprise customer contracts for software and data businesses. You know corporate law for a venture-backed company, including governance, share capital and investor documents, and you have rolled up your sleeves on a funding round or acquisition rather than watched from a distance.

Above all, you have sound commercial judgement. You can put a number on risk, offer a fallback and get the deal signed. You are comfortable being the only lawyer in the business, and you take real ownership of the detail.

Must haves

  • Solicitor qualified in England and Wales, with around 6 to 10 years’ PQE
  • At least your most recent three years spent in-house at a SaaS, software or data business
  • Hands-on negotiation of enterprise customer contracts, including on customer paper
  • Hands-on US commercial contracting with US customers or partners
  • Direct experience supporting an M&A deal or funding round
  • Comfortable as the only lawyer in the business, doing the work yourself
  • Based in the UK with the right to work here

Nice to have

  • Experience contracting for AI-enabled products. We don’t expect years of it, as the field is new
  • Knowledge of cross-border UK and US group structures
  • Experience setting up contract management processes

You will build a legal function from day one, with a direct line to the leadership team and a clear route to General Counsel. The work is new. Most lawyers have not yet negotiated how AI is built, deployed and owned for global enterprises, and you will be doing it every week.

Please note: I personally review every CV, message, and email I receive regarding our vacancies. While I carefully read each one, I am unfortunately unable to reply to everyone individually due to the volume of applications. Thank you for taking the time to apply and for your interest in working with us. Your effort is genuinely appreciated.
