The Opportunity

An established residential developer is looking to appoint an experienced Head of Health & Safety to lead and develop its health and safety function across a portfolio of residential construction projects, including high-rise developments and fire safety remediation schemes. This is a senior, hands‑on position offering the opportunity to shape company-wide safety standards, influence operational decision‑making and work closely with directors, project teams and external contractors. The successful candidate will take responsibility for driving a proactive safety culture, ensuring regulatory compliance and embedding best practice throughout the business. They will combine strong technical knowledge with a practical, commercially aware approach to managing risk across live construction environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the ongoing development and implementation of the company’s Health & Safety strategy, policies and procedures.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant UK legislation, construction regulations and recognised industry standards.

  • Oversee health and safety performance across multiple residential developments, including high‑rise schemes and fire safety projects.

  • Carry out site visits, inspections and audits, identifying potential hazards and ensuring appropriate corrective measures are implemented.

  • Manage the investigation of accidents, incidents and near misses, establishing root causes and preventing recurrence.

  • Review risk assessments and method statements (RAMS), providing guidance on the safe execution of complex and high‑risk activities.

  • Work collaboratively with site management, subcontractors and senior leadership to improve standards and challenge unsafe working practices where necessary.

  • Monitor and report on safety performance, highlighting areas of concern and recommending improvements.

  • Promote a positive safety culture through engagement, accountability and the development of safer working behaviours.

  • Provide practical advice to operational teams, ensuring risks are managed effectively without losing sight of project delivery and commercial objectives.

Candidate Profile

We are seeking a confident and proactive Health & Safety professional with substantial experience in the construction or residential development sector. You will be comfortable taking ownership of a function, influencing stakeholders at all levels and balancing strategic responsibility with a visible presence on site.

The ideal candidate will offer:

  • Proven senior‑level Health & Safety experience within residential construction, housebuilding or property development.

  • A track record of overseeing safety across multiple live construction sites, ideally including high‑rise residential developments.

  • A recognised Health & Safety qualification.

  • A strong understanding of UK health and safety legislation, construction risk management, auditing and incident investigation.

  • Experience dealing with fire safety remediation or legacy building safety projects would be advantageous.

  • The ability to engage, influence and challenge site teams, subcontractors and senior management constructively.

  • Strong organisational, communication and leadership skills, with the confidence to drive improvements across an established business.

  • A commercially minded approach, with the ability to develop proportionate solutions while maintaining high safety standards.

  • A full, valid UK driving licence.

The Package

  • Basic salary: £80,000-£100,000, depending on experience.

  • Bonus: 10%.

  • Car allowance.

  • Pension contribution.

  • Private healthcare.

This is an excellent opportunity for an established Health & Safety leader to take ownership of a key business function and make a tangible impact on safety, compliance and operational performance across a growing residential development portfolio.
