The Vacancy

Let us tell you about the opportunity

We’re looking for an ambitious and commercially minded Credit Risk Manager to take ownership of the credit strategy for our property business.

This is a high-impact First Line role where you’ll shape how we lend, manage risk and unlock sustainable growth. You’ll own credit strategy, policies and risk appetite, combining advanced analytics with strong commercial judgement to help the business achieve its objectives while maintaining a high-quality lending portfolio.

You’ll also lead a team of three Credit Risk Analysts, splitting your time between hands-on analysis and leading the team – setting direction, developing people and owning the function’s output.

What you’ll be doing

  • Own and evolve credit strategy, underwriting policy, lending criteria and risk appetite for the property portfolio, ensuring a balance between growth, profitability and risk outcomes.
  • Use advanced analytics and predictive modelling to identify opportunities, understand emerging trends and influence strategic decision-making across credit risk, customer take-up and portfolio performance.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, including arrears, roll rates, vintage curves and loss rates, translating insight into clear recommendations and actionable strategy changes.
  • Oversee decisioning rules, scorecard cut-offs and affordability criteria, while acting as the business owner for credit models and scorecards, ensuring outputs are effectively implemented and monitored.
  • Lead, coach and develop a team of three Credit Risk Analysts, providing direction, building capability and overseeing monthly portfolio monitoring and strategy development.
  • Present portfolio insight and recommendations to senior stakeholders and committees, partnering closely with Risk, Finance, Collections and Compliance to support responsible growth.

What we’re looking for

You’ll bring significant experience in First Line credit risk, underwriting or credit policy, ideally gained within mortgages, property finance or another specialist lending environment. You’ll also have:

  • Proven experience owning credit strategies, underwriting policies and portfolio analysis, taking initiatives from insight through to implementation.
  • Strong analytical capability, including advanced SAS and/or Python skills, with experience using data to influence lending strategy and business performance.
  • Deep understanding of credit risk concepts, including PD, LGD, EAD, scorecards, affordability assessment and arrears management.
  • Experience developing predictive models, interpreting outputs and translating complex analysis into clear, commercially sound lending decisions.
  • Strong commercial judgement and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders and present recommendations confidently to committees.
  • Previous experience leading, coaching and developing analysts, supported by a degree in a numerate discipline or equivalent professional experience.

What you can expect from us

  • Hybrid working policy – 3 days onsite (London / Manchester)
  • Competitive salary and a great range of core benefits including annual bonus, up to 10% employer contribution pension, private medical with BUPA and 38 days holiday (including bank holidays)
  • The opportunity to shape the future of our property lending strategy, not simply monitor it
  • Freedom to explore new ideas, use advanced analytics to influence real business decisions and lead a talented team whose work directly supports our growth.
  • A collaborative culture where your ideas, development and career progression are genuinely supported.

We welcome people regardless of age, disability, gender identity, marital status, race, faith or belief, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background, and whether you’re pregnant or on family leave.

Please note:

we have a thorough screening and referencing process, which includes financial and criminal record checks.

The Company

We champion equality by supporting the exceptions to the rule and getting finance to where it’s needed.

We lend the money people save with us, to people who want to get on in life; build businesses and create employment, buy property for people to live and work in, and purchase vehicles to move families and goods around.

Our Behaviours

Back more people to go for it, in life and business.

Our behavioural framework underpins our purpose and strategic drivers, as it outlines the behaviours we need to demonstrate in order to succeed. Where our strategic drivers (Stay Ahead Propositions, Relationships That Last and Progressive Platform) outline what we need to do to succeed, our behaviours guide us in how. In your second interview, we’ll ask you to talk through some examples where you’ve demonstrated these behaviours in your previous roles.
