UK | Defence & Autonomous Systems | Permanent
Some project management roles are about maintaining a plan.
This one is about helping a small engineering company deliver cutting-edge unmanned systems that matter in the real world.
We’re working with a growing UK defence technology business developing unmanned systems with direct relevance to both current operational requirements and the future of UK defence.
They’re looking for a Project Manager who understands how to deliver complex engineering programmes – working directly with mechanical, electronics, software and systems engineers while managing demanding MOD stakeholders.
The role
You’ll take ownership of projects from requirements through development, testing and delivery. That means keeping engineering teams, customers, suppliers and stakeholders aligned while making sure programmes move forward at pace. You’ll be close to the technology and the people building it – not managing projects from a spreadsheet three layers removed from engineering. As a small business its lacking formal processes you’d find in an OEM, but that should be where you thrive… going to someone’s desk, having discussions and getting things moving in real time over endless meetings.
What we’re looking for
1. Engineering environment
You’ve managed projects involving real engineering – mechanical, electronics, software, systems, robotics, aerospace or similar.
2. Comfortable with pace
This is a small, growing company developing new technology. Priorities change, problems need solving quickly and you’ll need to create structure without creating unnecessary bureaucracy.
You’ve worked directly with the UK Ministry of Defence, understand the customer environment and are comfortable managing MOD stakeholders and expectations.
