Senior Principal Systems Engineer

Overview

In this role you will provide technical leadership across complex system developments for Trials, Test and Evaluation. You will shape the technical direction of the IDT and act as senior design and engineering authority on major programmes. You’ll ensure delivery on time, cost and quality while managing safety and regulatory requirements. You’ll collaborate with customers and stakeholders across UK Defence and related teams to drive resilient, secure engineering outcomes. This is a hands-on leadership role in a mission-focused, defence technology environment with opportunities to influence future digital ranges and un-crewed systems integration.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership across multiple projects and programmes
• Act as Senior Design Authority and/or Senior Engineering Authority as delegated
• Collaborate with Programme Managers to deliver on-time, on-cost, on-quality safely
• Build a resilient engineering team and manage succession planning
• Articulate IDT technical needs and ensure teams possess required competence
• Engage with stakeholders across the customer community (UK Defence, T3E Futures, T&E Campaign, etc.)
• Provide guidance, mentoring and coaching to Technical Leads and staff

Key requirements

• Proven technical leadership across multiple projects or programmes
• Experience in Defence, Aerospace or related sectors
• Understanding of engineering management within a complex business environment
• Knowledge of complex systems development and systems engineering practices
• Awareness of safety, security and regulatory requirements
• Strong business and commercial awareness
