Senior Legal Counsel, International Strategy and Commercial Business

Overview

In this role you provide pragmatic legal guidance to support Novartis’ international commercial strategy. You partner with business leaders on brands, launches, lifecycle management and market access across markets outside the US. You address complex regulatory, privacy and risk matters while enabling ambitious objectives in a responsible, sustainable way. You collaborate across Legal, Ethics, Risk, Compliance and other functions to drive effective decisions and cross‑functional impact.

Responsibilities

• Provide pragmatic, business-focused legal advice on complex international commercial matters
• Partner with leadership on commercial brands, launch strategies and lifecycle management
• Advise on partnerships and alliances, including drafting and negotiating complex agreements
• Assess enterprise risks and craft practical solutions aligned with business objectives
• Collaborate with Legal, Ethics, Risk & Compliance, Regulatory, Medical, Finance and Privacy functions
• Support disputes, investigations, contractual issues and potential litigation related to brands and partnerships
• Promote efficient ways of working through knowledge sharing, collaboration and mentoring

Key requirements

• Law degree with qualification to practice law in a relevant jurisdiction
• Significant post-qualification experience in pharma/biotech or leading law firms
• Strong knowledge of pharma/biotech legal matters including commercial, regulatory, privacy, digital and AI
• Demonstrated commercial acumen with pragmatic legal solutions in complex situations
• Strong communication, influencing and negotiation skills across a matrix organization
• Proven ability to deliver high-quality work under tight timelines in a fast-paced environment
