If you’re an experienced HGV driver who enjoys variety, adapts easily, and takes pride in keeping an operation moving, this could be the role for you.
Dash Express is part of the Palletways network and a trusted logistics provider across the South West. We’re looking for a dependable HGV Cover Driver to step in where needed – covering Class 1 and Class 2 work, collections and deliveries, and day or night trunking.
This is not a fixed-route driving job. It’s a role for someone who’s comfortable with change and happy being relied upon when flexibility matters.
What the role actually involves
As our HGV Cover Driver, you’ll provide essential cover across the operation. Your work may include:
Driving Class 1 and Class 2 vehicles , depending on the routeCompleting pallet collection and delivery routes , including multi drop workCarrying out day and night trunking runs between depotsCompleting daily vehicle checks and reporting any defectsLoading, securing and unloading palletised goods safelyUsing a pallet truck where requiredScanning consignments using a handheld terminal (HHT)Communicating clearly with the operations team about delays or issuesKeeping vehicles clean, fuelled, and ready for the next shiftWorking within driver hours, WTD and tachograph regulations at all times
You’ll be trusted to work independently, represent the business professionally, and step up wherever you’re most needed.
What we’re looking for
This role suits drivers who are confident, adaptable, and professional.
You’ll need:
A valid Class 1 (C+E) licenceAn up to date CPCExperience with HGV collections, deliveries and/or pallet trunkingA solid understanding of driver hours and road safetyGood time keeping and reliabilityStrong communication skills and a customer focused attitudeThe flexibility to work variable shifts
All staff must be able to pass a basic DBS check .
Pay and benefits
£16.00 per hourEnhanced rate when working trunking shifts£1,000 joining bonus (£500 after 1 month, £500 after 3 months)5.6 weeks’ holiday , including bank holidays
