Job Description:

EL / PL Litigation Solicitor | Belfast

Competitive Salary | Excellent Benefits | Hybrid Working | High-Value Litigation

The Opportunity

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Litigation Solicitor to join a well-established Belfast law firm with a strong claimant litigation practice and an excellent reputation for client care.

This role offers the chance to take ownership of your own caseload, work on a varied range of employers’ liability, public liability and occupiers’ liability claims, and gain exposure to both County Court and High Court litigation.

You’ll manage a substantial caseload of approximately 100 files, ranging from straightforward personal injury claims to complex, high-value litigation involving significant legal and evidential issues.

With direct support from an experienced senior solicitor, you’ll have the autonomy to develop your own practice while continuing to strengthen your technical expertise and take on increasingly complex matters.

For a solicitor looking for quality work, genuine responsibility and a clear path for professional development, this is an opportunity well worth exploring.

The Role

You’ll manage matters from initial instruction through to settlement or conclusion, working closely with an experienced senior solicitor who provides guidance and support while encouraging independence and professional growth.

Your caseload will cover a range of matters, including:

  • Employers’ liability claims.

  • Public liability claims.

  • Occupiers’ liability claims.

  • Wider claimant personal injury litigation.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing and progressing your own caseload of approximately 100 matters.

  • Taking client instructions and providing clear, practical legal advice.

  • Assessing liability, causation, quantum and overall case strategy.

  • Drafting letters of claim, pleadings, court documents, correspondence and witness statements.

  • Reviewing medical records, witness evidence and supporting documentation.

  • Progressing claims through the Northern Ireland litigation process.

  • Attending court reviews, hearings and other procedural matters in the County Court and High Court.

  • Instructing and liaising with junior and senior Counsel.

  • Working with medical professionals and other specialist experts.

  • Negotiating settlements and bringing matters to a successful conclusion.

  • Preparing complex cases for hearings and trial.

  • Working alongside senior colleagues on significant and higher-value litigation.

High-Quality Litigation and Specialist Exposure

One of the key attractions of this position is the opportunity to work on a broad range of litigation, including complex and high-value cases.

You’ll gain exposure to cases involving senior and junior Counsel, multiple medical experts and challenging issues relating to liability, causation and quantum.

Depending on the matters you handle, there may also be opportunities to work with care experts, forensic accountants and other specialist witnesses.

This is an excellent environment for a solicitor who wants to deepen their technical knowledge, broaden their litigation experience and develop the skills required to handle increasingly complex cases.

About You

We’re keen to speak with Northern Ireland-qualified Solicitors who have experience in employers’ liability, public liability, occupiers’ liability, personal injury or a related litigation practice.

You’ll ideally have:

  • Qualification as a Solicitor in Northern Ireland.

  • Practical experience in litigation, ideally within EL, PL, occupiers’ liability or claimant personal injury.

  • Experience managing or progressing a litigation caseload.

  • A sound understanding of the Northern Ireland litigation process.

  • Strong drafting, analytical and negotiation skills.

  • Excellent client-care and communication abilities.

  • Strong organisation and attention to detail.

  • The confidence to take ownership of matters while recognising when guidance is needed.

  • A genuine interest in developing your litigation expertise and building a long-term career.

Candidates with relevant claimant litigation or personal injury experience are encouraged to apply. The firm is interested in finding the right individual, with the technical foundation, attitude and ambition to develop within the team.

Support, Autonomy and Career Development

The team offers a supportive working environment where solicitors are trusted to take responsibility for their own work while benefiting from the experience of senior colleagues.

You’ll work closely with an experienced senior solicitor who takes a hands-on approach to training and development without unnecessary micromanagement.

As your confidence and expertise grow, you’ll have the opportunity to take on more complex cases, develop your technical ability and build greater independence in managing your practice.

This balance of autonomy, accessible support and quality work makes the role particularly attractive to someone who wants to progress professionally without feeling they have to navigate complex matters alone.

Salary and Benefits

The successful candidate can expect a competitive remuneration package alongside a range of benefits, including:

  • Competitive salary.

  • Excellent employee benefits.

  • Hybrid working and flexibility.

  • Exposure to complex and high-value litigation.

  • Direct support and development from an experienced senior solicitor.

  • Ongoing technical and professional development.

  • Genuine opportunities for long-term career progression.

  • A supportive and collaborative team environment.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This is more than an opportunity to manage a busy litigation caseload. It offers the chance to develop your expertise within an established practice, gain valuable exposure to complex claims and build a strong foundation for future career progression.

You’ll benefit from varied and challenging work, genuine responsibility, access to experienced guidance and the flexibility of hybrid working.

Whether you’re looking to broaden your litigation experience, develop greater autonomy or take the next step towards handling more complex matters, this role offers plenty of scope to progress.
