Software Development Manager | Chester | Hybrid | .NET | up to £65,000 + Benefits
KDR are working with an established, customer-focused business looking for a .NET Development Manager to take ownership of their web development function.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys combining technical leadership with the commercial side of technology, working closely with teams across the business to improve their digital platforms and customer experience.
You’ll lead a small team of developers, taking ownership of the web development roadmap and working directly with Marketing, Product and other stakeholders to understand what the business needs and how technology can help deliver it.
They need someone who can bring their own ideas to the table, challenge requirements where necessary and help shape the direction of the platforms rather than simply delivering whatever comes through the door.
What you’ll do
Lead & Develop the Team:
Manage and support a team of Web Developers, providing technical direction, improving engineering standards and helping the team deliver consistently.
Own the Web Development Roadmap:
Take responsibility for planning, prioritising and delivering web development projects, balancing technical requirements with commercial priorities.
Work Across the Business:
Partner closely with Marketing, Product, SEO and Conversion Rate Optimisation teams to understand their challenges and turn ideas into practical technical solutions.
Shape Technical Solutions:
Get involved early in discussions, helping stakeholders understand what’s possible, challenging assumptions and recommending the best approach.
Improve the Platforms:
Identify opportunities to improve website performance, functionality and customer experience, while maintaining high standards around code quality and reliability.
Manage Delivery:
Oversee project estimates, timelines, budgets and external suppliers, keeping stakeholders informed and ensuring development priorities stay on track.
What you’ll bring
You’ll have a strong technical background in web development, ideally having progressed into a role where you’re managing developers and taking greater ownership of delivery and technical direction.
- Experience managing and developing a team of Software or Web Developers
- Strong technical background in .NET and SQL Server
- Experience managing Agile development projects and delivery roadmaps
- Good understanding of CI/CD, automated testing and modern development practices
- Strong stakeholder management skills, particularly working with non-technical teams
- Experience translating business requirements into technical solutions
- Confidence challenging requirements and recommending alternative approaches
- Experience managing priorities, estimates and project delivery
Why this one is interesting
This isn’t a role where you’ll simply manage a development team and keep projects moving.
You’ll have a real opportunity to influence the direction of the company’s web platforms, working closely with commercial stakeholders and helping shape what gets built and why.
It’s a good fit for someone who is still hands-on in .NET and enjoys the technical side of engineering management, but also wants to have a direct influence on customer experience and wider business performance.
