SEND Specialist Tutor

We are seeking a SEND Tutor who can provide consistent, structured and engaging sessions tailored to the individual needs of a student with complex needs. The primary focus of this role is to re-engage the student with learning, build trust, and support their emotional wellbeing and personal development.

Tuition will be delivered on a 1:1 basis for 15 hours per week, ideally during school hours. You will also be required to complete weekly reports to track engagement, progress, behaviour and wellbeing, helping to ensure the student remains on track and receives the appropriate support.

• Location – SunderlandPosition – SEND Specialist Tutor (SEMH & Complex Needs)Type of work – ContractStart date – ASAPSetting – Student’s home or local community setting (e.g. learning hub/library)Duration – Ongoing, until a suitable school placement is securedContract type – TemporaryHours – 15 hours per weekRate of pay – up to 30 per hour (negotiable)

• Build a positive and trusting relationship to support engagement in learningDeliver tailored, engagement-focused sessions that meet the needs of a Year 11 learnerSupport the student’s SEMH development, helping them regulate emotions and build resilienceProvide guidance and structure during a key stage in their education and transition planningPromote confidence, independence, and life skills through structured activitiesCreate a calm, consistent, and safe learning environmentMonitor and assess progress, providing clear feedback to families and professionalsMaintain accurate records of attendance and complete weekly reports

Experience, Training and Qualifications of the SEND Specialist Tutor:

• Children-related or Education-based qualificationExperience working with students with complex SEND and SEMH needsBackground in teaching, tutoring, or support workPatient, resilient, and creative approach to learningAbility to think outside the box and adapt sessions to maintain engagement

To be eligible for this role, the SEND Specialist Tutor must:

• Hold the right to work in the UKHold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new applicationBe able to provide references covering the last two years
