Job Description:

Care Support Worker (Female Drivers) – Cardiff & Vale of Glamorgan, UK

Home care in South Wales runs on drivers. A carer’s day is a chain of short visits spread across Cardiff, Barry, Rhoose, Penarth and the villages of the Vale of Glamorgan, and a provider can only keep that chain moving if its team has their own cars. That is why Delight Care & Support Services Ltd is recruiting female Care Support Workers who hold a full UK driving licence and have a vehicle, and why that detail sits at the top of the advert, not the bottom.

Delight Care & Support Services Limited is a registered provider on the Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) register, listed for domiciliary support and supported living from a Cardiff office at Alexandra Gate. CIW has published inspection reports on the provider (we saw reports from 2023 and 2024), so it’s worth reading the latest one before you apply.

Sponsorship: Read This Carefully

The advert lists “UK visa sponsorship” as a benefit, but the small print is the real offer: a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) opportunity after 12 months of continuous employment, subject to consistently high standards of care, good conduct and eligibility requirements. In other words, sponsorship is not available from day one, and it is not guaranteed.

There is a bigger issue. Since 22 July 2025 the care worker visa route has been closed to new overseas recruits, and the transitional arrangement running to July 2028 is aimed at care workers who are already sponsored in the UK and who have been with the same sponsor for at least three months. We could not confirm how a provider could issue a new CoS for a care worker role to someone who was not already sponsored in one. So if you are counting on this job to lead to a visa, ask Delight Care in writing exactly which route they would use, and check current Home Office guidance first. This is general information, not immigration advice.

You must already hold the right to work in the UK to be hired.

Why the Role Is Female-Only

The advert states that the post is open to female applicants only because of the personal care needs of clients, relying on the occupational requirement in Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll visit clients in their own homes, helping them stay independent and comfortable:

  • Providing personal care such as washing, dressing and toileting, with dignity and respect
  • Prompting or administering medication in line with your training and MAR charts
  • Preparing meals and drinks and supporting good nutrition and hydration
  • Supporting safe mobility, including moving and handling
  • Carrying out light domestic tasks where the care plan says so
  • Offering companionship and emotional support
  • Writing accurate care records on the digital care system
  • Following each client’s care plan and company policies

Pay, Contract & Location

  • Pay: £13.45 per hour (the advert also quotes £25,420 a year, which works out to roughly 36 hours a week at that rate)
  • Contract type: Full time, part time or flexible hours
  • Shifts: Mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends, on a rota built around your availability
  • Location: Cardiff, Barry, Rhoose, Penarth and the Vale of Glamorgan. This is community-based work, driving between clients
  • Flexible shifts to fit around your life
  • Paid training and ongoing professional development
  • Uniform and PPE provided
  • Clear routes to progress your care career

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Female applicants only
  • Full UK driving licence and your own car (essential)
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Willingness to complete an enhanced DBS check
  • Good communication skills and a genuinely caring nature
  • Previous care experience is welcome but not essential, as full training is provided
