Java Developer Spring Boot AWS API

Overview

In this role you will build and maintain the backend for a financial tech-for-good platform, focusing on integrations with internal and external systems using AWS and Kafka. You will contribute to a data-centric Operational Data Store and help shape architecture and code quality through design ownership, testing, and AI-assisted development. You’ll implement infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, and monitoring while collaborating with stakeholders to translate requirements into working software. This is a hands-on, impact-driven role in a scaling tech business with hybrid London-working options.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain integrations between internal platforms and third-party systems using AWS services (ECS Fargate, SQS, MSK, S3, IAM)
• Contribute to the Operational Data Store built with Debezium, Java, Spring Boot, and Aurora Serverless v2
• Own features from design through release with production-grade code and automated tests
• Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code with Terraform
• Develop CI/CD pipelines using Git and GitHub Actions
• Support monitoring and data quality using Dynatrace
• Engage in AI-assisted development and share techniques to promote AI adoption
• Collaborate with Technology and Operations stakeholders to translate requirements into software
• Participate in code reviews and identify opportunities to improve the integration platform

Key requirements

• Strong Java, Spring Boot backend development experience
• Good understanding of cloud architecture, AWS
• Experience with data-centric systems and data synchronization
• Experience building APIs and working on integrations
• Experience with Kafka or similar data/messaging tools
• Familiar with IaC, Terraform, GitHub Actions
• Understanding of scalable, event-driven systems
