Director, Full stack AI Engineer

Overview

As Director, Full stack AI Engineer you will lead the development of Bain’s Growth AI Performance System, spanning frontend interfaces and backend services. You’ll influence architecture and product direction within a cross-functional team, solving real-world decisioning and data challenges for enterprise clients. You will build data-dense, visualization-rich interfaces and integrate AI capabilities at scale for professional users. This role combines startup-level ownership with Bain’s scale, offering meaningful impact on client engagements and product strategy.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end feature development for the Growth AI Performance System frontend (React/TypeScript) and backend APIs
• Own feature areas across dashboards, scenario tools, marketing ROI views, brand analytics, and pricing displays
• Build data-dense, chart-heavy interfaces with real-time updates and complex visualizations
• Integrate agentic AI capabilities into user interfaces with clear, credible AI outputs and uncertainty indicators
• Lead design system implementation and maintain frontend engineering conventions across the suite
• Ensure frontend performance, reliability, and security across production deployments using DevSecOps practices
• Mentor and manage a small team of mid- to senior-level engineers, including performance reviews and development plans
• Collaborate with Design, AI Engineering, and Data Engineering teams to translate requirements into engineering deliverables
• Engage with consulting teams to gather feedback from live deployments and translate it into product improvements
• Drive innovation by staying current with frontend technologies, AI-assisted patterns, and data visualization techniques
• Lead recruiting, onboarding, and creating a high-satisfaction team environment

Key requirements

• 10+ years in full-stack software engineering with hands-on frontend and backend responsibilities
• Direct people-management experience including performance reviews and development planning
• Expertise in React and TypeScript for complex frontend development
• Strong server-side engineering for reliable, versioned APIs at production scale
• Experience building data-dense analytical interfaces with modern visualization libraries
• Experience integrating LLM/agentic AI into user-facing features
• Cloud-native deployment on Azure or AWS with containerization
• Understanding of authentication, authorization, and secure data handling (DevSecOps)
• Familiarity with design systems and translating design specs into code
• Proficiency with AI-assisted coding tools (Cursor, Claude Code or equivalent)
