Principal Product Engineer

Overview

As a Principal Product Engineer at Zapp, you will own the full lifecycle of the customer-facing apps across iOS, Android, and web. You’ll help shape a world-class experience while advancing AI-driven product features and scalable infrastructure. You’ll work at the front line of quick commerce, balancing speed with reliability and security. This role offers impact by shaping architecture, leading cross-team delivery, and driving customer value through AI-enabled technology.

Pay / Benefits

• base salary 135,000 – 175,000

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end delivery of features across backend, web, infrastructure, and mobile when needed
• Prototype and steer AI-driven product solutions to create real customer value
• Define technical direction, architecture, and standards across the product
• Lead feature development from problem to production, including production on-call responsibilities
• Improve production performance, latency, release processes, and security
• Mentor and elevate teammates by sharing patterns, reviews, and best practices
• Set patterns for how teams leverage AI and observe impact on customer experience
• Maintain clean APIs and system quality with a focus on craft and reliability

Key requirements

• 10+ years of production software experience
• Full-stack proficiency across backend, web, and infrastructure
• Strong fundamentals in TypeScript, GraphQL, and SQL
• Experience with NestJS and React (and familiarity with React Native/Expo)
• Cloud and DevOps mindset (GCP or equivalent, CI/CD, observability)
• Regular use of AI in development and ability to share useful patterns
• Product-minded approach measuring customer impact over code quantity
• Production-minded with API design, observability, scalability, and security
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Comfort with ambiguity and proactive, autonomous work style
