Requirements Engineer – Interoperability

Overview

In this role you help ensure interoperability compliance across the HS2 project portfolio, acting as the main contact for clients, approval bodies, and regulators. You embed and evidence NTSN/NTR requirements throughout the project lifecycle, building an auditable trace of compliance. You coordinate with engineering teams and suppliers to maintain a robust interoperability management plan and evidence base enabling timely authorisation and entry into service. The position sits at the intersection of design, systems engineering, and governance, shaping safer, smarter rail infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary interoperability interface with the Client across delivery packages
• Develop, implement and maintain the Interoperability Management Plan
• Identify, interpret and manage NTSN, NTR and interoperability requirements
• Maintain the register of applicable NTSN baselines and assess regulatory changes impact
• Develop and maintain the Interoperability Compliance Matrix
• Monitor compliance status and coordinate actions for gaps
• Collaborate with design, systems engineering, verification/validation/testing, and commissioning teams to gather evidence for compliance

Key requirements

• Experience in railway interoperability, systems engineering or assurance, especially in major rail infrastructure projects
• Strong knowledge of National NTSNs, NTRs and railway assessment/authorisation processes
• Ability to coordinate verification and validation activities and compile auditable evidence
• Ability to manage derogations, compliance risks, issues, and actions through to resolution
• Strong stakeholder management skills with clients, assessment bodies, regulators, engineers and suppliers
