Job Description:

Overview

As a Robotics Controls Engineer at Wayve you translate AI Driver outputs into safe, smooth vehicle motion across platforms. You will design and tune trajectory- and motion-control algorithms, integrate them with real-time vehicle actuation, and ensure robust, production-quality performance. You’ll work across teams to enable new vehicle platforms and features, using simulation and on-road testing to validate improvements. This role offers the chance to shape AV control systems at scale and contribute to a mission to universalize autonomy.

Pay / Benefits

  • Salaries benchmarked against market
  • Meaningful equity
  • Relocation support and visa sponsorship
  • Hybrid working with core hours
  • Learning and development budgets
  • Comprehensive benefits: health, dental, parental leave, retirement/pension, wellbeing partnerships

Responsibilities

  • Develop, integrate, tune, and validate control, trajectory-generation, and action-processing algorithms across vehicle platforms and driving conditions
  • Maintain and evolve controls software architecture linking AI outputs to real-time actuation and feedback
  • Implement and maintain production-quality, latency-sensitive control software in C++ for prototype, reference and production vehicles
  • Use simulation, closed-loop evaluation and on-road testing to characterize controller behavior and diagnose issues
  • Collaborate with Wayve teams to define controller interfaces, integrate with adjacent systems and enable new vehicle platforms and product features
  • Develop and improve vehicle trajectory and motion controllers translating AI Driver outputs into safe, smooth motion across platforms (ADAS and AV)

Key requirements

  • Strong fundamentals in control theory with depth in optimization, model-predictive control, numerical methods or dynamical systems
  • Practical experience developing, tuning and validating control or motion systems on real-world physical systems
  • Strong software engineering skills with production-quality C++
  • Experience with latency-sensitive or real-time software
  • Ability to reason about and debug system-level behavior in complex robotic systems across software and hardware
  • Applied experience with model predictive control, trajectory optimization, motion planning
  • Direct experience with mobile robotics or autonomous vehicle systems
  • Experience in the automotive industry including ADAS or vehicle controls
  • Experience with safety-critical systems and relevant standards (ISO 26262)
  • Applied machine learning experience or integrating ML components
  • cross-functional collaboration
  • problem-solving mindset
  • curiosity and willingness to learn
  • C++ production-quality software
  • latency-sensitive real-time systems
  • model predictive control (MPC)
