Senior Backend Product Engineer

Overview

In this Senior Backend Product Engineer role, you’ll design, build and run production systems across Pre-Trade, Trade and Post-Trade in the Capital Markets tech team. You’ll partner with product managers and the business to turn open-ended problems into working software, with AI features already in use. You’ll work in small autonomous teams, own your outcomes, and contribute to a modern, high-standards codebase. This role offers impactful work across complex trade lifecycles and direct visibility into business performance.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and operate systems for Pre-Trade, Trade and Post-Trade
• Collaborate with product managers and business to translate problems into software
• Develop and ship AI-driven features and future iterations
• Own end-to-end quality, testing, and production readiness
• Work in small autonomous Kanban teams and manage production runbooks
• Contribute to CI/CD, monitoring, alerting, and incident response
• Participate in shaping problems and taking solutions to production
• Communicate technical decisions clearly to non-engineers

Key requirements

• Experience as a software developer with Java or Kotlin server-side applications
• Proven track record turning business problems into working software with measurable impact
• Experience building and running mission-critical services in production (CI/CD, monitoring, incident response)
• Strong testing across unit/integration/e2e with appropriate test strategy
• Spring (Boot, Data, Security), relational DB design, REST APIs, and Kafka or equivalent
• Experience with AI-first software development and understanding of LLMs
• Technical leadership including mentoring and setting engineering standards
• Clear communication of technical decisions to non-engineers
