Senior Software Engineer – AML – Java

Overview

As an Engineer in Wise’s AML Risk squad, you will shape how we detect money laundering and terrorist financing across products and regions. You’ll own large, scalable detection projects and their roadmaps, working with engineers, PMs, data scientists, and AML experts. You’ll improve alert quality, reliability and security, while mentoring peers to raise technical excellence. This role offers impact by reducing false alerts and friction for legitimate customers as you help build a data-driven, compliant money-movement platform.

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable AML detection controls that can evolve with risk
• Own large projects, their technical roadmaps, and delivery
• Shape product decisions and articulate customer problems and impact
• Improve reliability, security, and overall technical quality
• Mentor engineers and share knowledge across the team

Key requirements

• 5+ years of experience building backend, distributed, or data-intensive systems
• Expert in technical discipline and domain understanding
• Ability to design systems with long-term change and scale in mind
• Mentorship and coaching of other engineers
• Experience in AML or financial crime is preferred but not required
• Experience running ML or large language models in production is preferred but not required
