Principal Test Solutions Engineer

Overview

As Principal Test Solutions Engineer, you lead the design and delivery of complex RF, digital and analogue test solutions and act as the engineering lead for subcontracted work. You collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to define equipment and production test requirements and drive on-time, within-budget delivery. You will shape test architectures, manage risks and lifecycle reviews, and support integration and commissioning of test solutions. This role combines hands-on engineering with strategic supplier management in a defence electronics context.

Responsibilities

• Design and capture test equipment requirements for RF, digital and analogue systems
• Define production test requirements for main equipment including PCB and system-level tests
• Coordinate subcontracting of complex test solutions to the supply chain
• Manage relationships with 3rd party suppliers to meet schedule and budget
• Resolve supplier technical queries promptly and drive lifecycle design reviews
• Maintain main equipment baseline with supplier information
• Support integration, commissioning and on-site deployment of test solutions
• Contribute to material and failure review processes
• Perform design-for-test assessments for analogue, digital and RF products
• Identify technical risks and mitigation strategies such as obsolescence management
• Oversee concession closures and ensure effective closure plans

Key requirements

• Hands-on design experience of complex test solutions across full product life cycle
• Strong understanding of electronic technologies from DC to RF
• Experience working with external suppliers and outsourcing complex work packages
• Proficiency with NI LabVIEW and TestStand
• Degree-qualified (or equivalent)
• Strong schedule planning and budget control
• Effective communication with diverse stakeholders
