Technical Product Owner

Overview

As a Technical Product Owner in a large-scale public service setting, you’ll shape and deliver AI-enabled, Python-driven digital products. You will bridge business stakeholders, engineers, and data/AI teams to translate real-world challenges into scalable tech solutions. You’ll guide feature definition, prioritisation, and integration with existing systems while balancing innovation with security and maintainability. This role offers impact at scale, with a focus on responsible AI and data governance within a collaborative, Agile environment.

Responsibilities

• Own and prioritise the product backlog to align with business goals and technical needs
• Collaborate with Python developers, AI engineers, data specialists and other stakeholders to deliver features
• Translate business problems into user stories, acceptance criteria, and technical requirements
• Support AI-powered solution development and process improvements
• Engage with developers to review technical approaches and guide product decisions
• Coordinate AI model and data pipeline integrations with existing systems
• Balance new features with technical debt, performance, security, scalability, and maintainability
• Facilitate Agile ceremonies like backlog refinement and sprint planning
• Gather stakeholder and end-user feedback to inform priorities
• Ensure data privacy, security, governance, reliability, and responsible AI practices
• Communicate vision, progress, risks, and dependencies to technical and non-technical audiences

Key requirements

• Proven experience as Technical Product Owner/PM or similar role
• Strong software development understanding with Python-based applications
• Experience working with engineers to shape technical requirements
• Solid understanding of AI/ML/generative AI and real-world applications
• Ability to translate requirements into well-defined user stories and prioritized backlogs
• Experience in Agile environments (Scrum/Kanban)
• Strong stakeholder management and alignment across technical and business teams
• Comfort discussing APIs, integrations, databases, data flows, and software architecture
• Pragmatic, analytical problem-solving and decision-making
• Excellent communication skills for non-technical audiences
