Job Description and Person Specification

Are you a passionate pastoral leader who believes education is about developing brilliant humans as well as successful learners?

Do you believe education is about more than qualifications, that it should build confidence, broaden horizons and help young people discover what they are capable of?

We’re looking for a Deputy Head of Student Experience to work alongside the Group Head, leading the student experience at our North Devon College campus.

If you currently work in a school as a Head of Year, Head of House or pastoral leader, this is an exciting opportunity to bring your experience into a college setting and shape the experience of students aged 16–19.

What makes this role different?

With half of your teaching timetable remitted for leadership, you’ll have the time and opportunity to focus on the things that make college life memorable and meaningful.

You’ll help lead an ambitious programme of enrichment, careers education and tutorial, creating opportunities for students to develop their interests, discover new passions, build relationships and prepare for life beyond college.

From trips, clubs and student activities to inspirational employer encounters, meaningful tutorials and careers opportunities, you’ll help ensure that students get the very best from their time at college – both inside and outside the classroom.

This is a role for someone who enjoys working with young people, bringing people together, turning ideas into action and making things happen. You’ll work with colleagues across the college and wider group to develop an inclusive, engaging and ambitious student experience, ensuring that every student feels they belong, can achieve their potential and is ready to thrive in their next steps.

What you’ll bring

A passion for young people and pastoral leadership, with a clear understanding of how relationships, belonging and wider experiences contribute to student success.

Experience of leading teams, managing provision or coordinating initiatives that make a positive difference to learners.

A strong track record of excellent teaching, learning and student achievement.

The ability to turn ideas into well‑organised, engaging and impactful activities and events.

Excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate others and build strong relationships.

A recognised teaching qualification and a relevant Level 3 qualification or above.

A strong commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.

If you’re ready to bring your pastoral leadership experience into a new setting, inspire young people and help shape an outstanding student experience, we’d love to hear from you.

We’ll give you incredibly generous holidays and a superb pension scheme. You’ll also get a package of amazing benefits, including free counselling and discounted supermarket shopping, spa treatments, electric cars and much more.

Closing Date: Sunday 15th November 2026 at midnight

No CVs or agencies please.
