The Opportunity

An established and growing building services engineering consultancy is looking to recruit several Electrical Design Engineers, from early-career Engineers through to Associate Director level.

With an established team, a strong history of employee retention and ambitious plans for growth, this is an opportunity to join a friendly, collaborative business where you can develop your career, take ownership of projects and make a genuine contribution to the company’s future.

You will work on a varied portfolio of building services projects for commercial and institutional clients, including technically challenging projects requiring close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electrical building services solutions, from concept through to detailed design and project delivery.
  • Prepare and review electrical schematics, layouts, specifications, calculations and technical documentation.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant UK Building Regulations, BS 7671 and applicable British Standards.
  • Undertake site surveys, plant room inspections and project visits.
  • Coordinate designs with mechanical engineers, architects, contractors and the internal CAD team.
  • Manage your own workload and deliver accurate, high-quality work to agreed deadlines.
  • Attend client meetings, respond to technical queries and build effective working relationships.
  • Support and mentor junior colleagues where appropriate.

For senior appointments, responsibilities will also include technical leadership, project oversight, developing client relationships and contributing to business development.

About You

  • Experience in electrical building services design within a consultancy environment.
  • Practical experience delivering detailed electrical design projects, through RIBA stages 0-6 but particularly at RIBA Stages 4 and 5.
  • A sound understanding of UK electrical design standards and building regulations.
  • Strong technical, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Confident communication skills and the ability to engage professionally with clients and project teams.
  • A proactive, reliable and collaborative approach, with the ability to take ownership of your work.

Senior and Principal Engineers should be comfortable working autonomously and supporting less experienced colleagues. Associate Director candidates should also bring commercial awareness, strong client relationship skills and the ability to help develop new business.

Please note:

These roles are focused on building services consultancy experience. AutoCAD and Revit skills are not essential, as dedicated CAD support is provided.

The roles will be based in South Cambridge, with regular travel to client and project sites. Commutable from Huntingdon, Luton, Bishop’s Stortford, Bury St Edmunds, Bedford, Epping etc

Candidates must already have the right to work in the UK, as visa sponsorship is not available.
