Could you be a Sense Support Worker?
We’re looking for a caring and motivated Support Worker to join our friendly team at Meadow View Supported Living in Peterborough, supporting people with complex disabilities to develop their independence, build confidence and live the lives they choose.
This is a relief (0-hours) role, with a salary of 13.00 per hour. You’ll provide flexible support to the service, covering shifts as required.
As a Support Worker, you’ll provide high-quality, person-centred support tailored to each individual’s needs, preferences and support plan.
The people we support may have a range of complex needs, including hearing and/or sight difficulties, learning or physical disabilities and complex communication needs. You’ll take the time to understand each person as an individual, helping them make choices and participate in the activities that matter most to them.
You’ll support people to develop everyday living skills, maintain their independence and access opportunities within their local community. This could include helping with household tasks, accompanying people to appointments, supporting shopping trips or taking part in social and leisure activities.
Communication is at the heart of what we do. You’ll adapt your approach to meet each person’s communication needs, which may include learning new methods such as signs, symbols or other communication techniques.
The duties are varied and no two days will be the same. You may support people with personal care, mobility, health and wellbeing, as well as encouraging them to take an active role in their home and community.
Some of your key responsibilities will include:
Providing personalised support in line with individual care and support plans
Encouraging independence, choice and involvement in everyday decisions
Supporting people with personal care, mobility and health and wellbeing needs
Helping with everyday activities such as cooking, cleaning, shopping and managing daily routines
Supporting people to access their local community, appointments, social activities and leisure opportunities
Adapting communication methods to meet each individual’s needs
Supporting people with their behavioural needs, following individual support plans and guidelines where required
Maintaining accurate records and sharing important information with colleagues
Working collaboratively with families, colleagues and other professionals to provide consistent, high-quality support
Promoting a safe, respectful and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued
What we’re looking for:
We’re looking for someone who is compassionate, reliable and committed to providing genuinely person-centred support.
You’ll need:
Previous caring or support experience gained in a personal, voluntary or professional capacity
The ability to work independently as well as part of a team
The ability to adapt your communication style to meet the needs of the people you support
A willingness to develop new communication skills, including signs and symbols where required
The ability to support people with their mobility and participate in activities alongside them
The ability to travel between locations during working hours when supporting individuals
Confidence using your own initiative and good judgement, including when working independently
A creative, person-centred approach to problem solving
Good communication, literacy and numeracy skills to support everyday activities and maintain accurate records
The ability to build positive working relationships with the people we support, colleagues, families and other professionals
A willingness to undertake all training relevant to the service and your role
Previous experience supporting people with sensory impairments, dual sensory impairments or those who use a range of communication methods would be an advantage, but isn’t essential.
A driving licence and knowledge of British Sign Language (BSL) would also be desirable, but are not essential requirements for this vacancy. You won’t be required to use your own vehicle.
Full training relevant to the service and your role will be provided.
