Education Safeguarding Lead

Overview

In this role you lead Gloucestershire’s Education Safeguarding Team, ensuring robust safeguarding across schools, early years and providers. You provide strategic direction, oversee investigations and improvement activity, and strengthen practice through data and reviews. You collaborate with education leaders and safeguarding partners to contribute to multi-agency safeguarding and statutory reviews. You will develop the team and oversee safeguarding in education settings, including entertainment and employment contexts. This is a high-impact, collaborative leadership role within public services.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and professional oversight of education safeguarding across schools and settings
• Lead response to complex and high-risk safeguarding concerns, ensuring timely investigations and improvements
• Utilise audits and performance data to strengthen safeguarding practice across the education system
• Represent Education safeguarding in multi-agency arrangements, statutory reviews and inspections
• Manage and develop the Education Safeguarding Team
• Oversee safeguarding arrangements for children in entertainment and employment

Key requirements

• Substantial experience in education safeguarding
• Strong understanding of safeguarding legislation and statutory guidance
• Experience in a Designated Safeguarding Lead role or equivalent work with schools and vulnerable children
• Proven leadership and change-management ability
• Ability to influence partners and build cross-organisational relationships
• Excellent communication, analytical and reporting skills
• Degree-level education with a relevant safeguarding/education-related qualification
