Senior CAD Design/Team Leader

Overview

Senior CAD Design Engineer with leadership duties to guide the UK CAD Design team in an energy & renewables engineering company. You will stay hands-on initially, delivering high-quality 2D/3D CAD for structural steelwork, sheet metal, and pressure vessels, while shaping the team into a CAD Engineering Manager. The role blends technical design with people leadership, training, and cross-department collaboration to scale the design function. Your work has a direct impact on project delivery and engineering excellence, with a clear progression path over 12 months.

Responsibilities

• lead the UK CAD Design team (currently 4 Designers)
• hands-on CAD modelling and drafting using 2D/3D CAD
• design focus areas: structural fabrication, sheet metal, pressure vessels
• develop into CAD Engineering Manager and assist with doubling headcount
• training & development, project scheduling, performance reviews
• collaborate with other departments and oversee technical design

Key requirements

• HNC/D or Degree or Time Served Engineer
• Technical design experience in structural fabrications, sheet metal, pressure vessels
• CAD – Inventor / Autodesk Vault (desirable)
• experience at Senior Design Engineer level / mentoring Engineers
• willingness to take on Leadership Qualifications (with company support)
