Technical Manager – Produce

Overview

In this Technical Manager role, you will steer product safety, quality and compliance for Morrisons’ fresh produce across the end-to-end supply chain. You’ll work with UK and overseas growers and suppliers to uphold GLOBALG.A.P., BRC and sustainability standards while driving supplier performance and continuous improvement. The role blends technical leadership with commercial decision-making to secure safe, high-quality produce and minimise waste. You’ll partner with trading teams and manage incidents to protect customers and the brand. This is a hands-on, impact-driven position in a collaborative Corporate Services team.

Responsibilities

• Drive product safety and quality by setting and maintaining category specifications
• Approve new suppliers and products via technical selection and risk assessment, ensuring compliance with GLOBALG.A.P., BRC, SEDEX and MMS
• Align technical requirements with trading strategies and monitor supplier KPIs
• Manage complaints, incidents and product withdrawals with robust corrective actions
• Foster strong supply chain relationships with UK and international suppliers to secure supply and drive improvements
• Simplify technical processes by training suppliers to self-manage risk and approve appropriate products

Key requirements

• A relevant degree or equivalent work experience in fresh produce or horticulture
• Typically 3–5 years in fresh produce or horticultural industry
• Strong knowledge of HACCP, TACCP, GLOBALG.A.P., BRC and ethical/sustainability standards
• Proven capability in site and supplier auditing, risk assessment and incident management
• Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills for commercial decisions
• Strong problem-solving, attention to detail and willingness to travel within the UK and overseas
